Short Video Message Sharing Feature from WhatsApp

Teuku.net - The WhatsApp feature that is currently being developed based on my findings at WABetaInfo is a feature where later users can send short video messages.

Quoting information from Android Police, Sunday (18/6/2023), this feature was found in the WhatsApp beta application for Android version 2.23.8.19. While on iOS, this feature is known to exist in the beta application version 23.6.0.73.

Short Video Message Sharing Feature from WhatsApp

According to WABetaInfo, this feature can be found through the microphone icon next to the box for sending messages. When clicked, the icon will later change to a camera indicating the user can use it to record videos.

To record a video, the user just has to hold down the camera icon, just like when the user sends a voice message. The short video duration that can be recorded is only 60 seconds.

At first glance, this feature does not bring big changes. However, for some users this feature can certainly help.

For example, this feature can be used to send messages directly without the hassle of typing first. Just like other features on WhatsApp, this feature is also supported by end-to-end encryption.

In addition, the video that is sent cannot be forwarded to other people, but can only be seen by the recipient of the message. Even though it is already in beta, it is not yet known when this feature will be available to other WhatsApp application users.

Please note, this feature is not the first time it has been present in a chat application. Telegram, which is often referred to as a tough competitor to WhatsApp, has had a similar feature for a long time.
